Mark Peacock brings the band to a rousing finish of the opening number at the 2010 Midsummer Proms Concert in Longridge

MDLongridge Band are pleased to welcome Mark Peacock as Musical Director

Mark Peacock MA BA(Hons) PGCE

Mark started playing cornet from a very early age as he comes from a very large brass banding family.

He started playing in the local Salvation Army band before moving onto flugel and joining Tyldesley Band and then the Bedford Leigh band.

Mark studied music at Salford University with David King, Roy Newsome, Peter Graham and John Hudson and subsequently joined Kennedy’s Swinton Band on flugel. He became the first “brass bander” to graduate with a first class honours degree, and joined the newly formed Yorkshire Building Society Band. In 1996 Mark moved from YBS to Faireys to fulfil a lifelong ambition and had many contest successes.

Mark’s conducting career really began in 2004 when he started conducting the Pemberton Old Wigan JJB Band and had fantastic success with the band, both on the contest stage and at concert venues. The highlight was undoubtedly when Pemberton became National First Section Champions in 2004, and establishing them as a Championship section band. He moved to Wingates in 2009 and has had the pleasure of directing them throughout the UK, on radio and at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. He was an adjudicator at the 2010 National Youth Championships at the RNCM and had the pleasure of conducting the Fairey Band at concerts.

He is also MD of the Manchester City Big Band, which combines his love of music with football, and has directed the band at many events at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Mark returned to Salford University in 2007 to complete his MA in Music Performance under David King, and is an Associate Lecturer with Manchester Metropolitan University.
